Me in a nutshell:
I am a Professor of German & Linguistics in the 
Department of Germanic & Slavic Languages & Literatures (GSLL) and the Program in Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University. I am a member of the Center for Language Science at Penn State,  and a PIRE faculty member. I am currently the Director for the Linguistics Program and the Associate Director for the Center for Language Science here at Penn State. I am director of the Morphology Circle research group here at Penn State and am director of the Max Kade Institute for German-American Studies at Penn State. ​ Starting in the Fall 2025 semester, I will serve as the Director of Graduate Studies for GSLL. From 2021-2027 I am a Visiting Professor of Linguistics at the University of Greenwich and am affiliated with the Centre for Research in Language and Heritage (CREL).  I was a Senior Research Fellow at the Research Center at the Deutscher Sprachatlas at Philipps-Universität in Marburg, Germany in the Summer 2025 semester.

Throughout my career my research has been supported by generous funding from the following institutions: Centre for Advanced Study at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Minsterio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, The Max Kade Foundation, Mellon Foundation, The National Science Foundation, Rannís (The Icelandic Research Fund), & The Research Council of Norway.

Service to the profession:
I am also series editor of the book series Studies in Germanic Linguistics (John Benjamins) and the series Open Germanic Linguistics (Language Science Press),  editor of the journal Continua (Penn State & University of Stavanger -- OA), editor of the proceedings of WILA (Workshop on Immigrant Languages in the Americas) (Bergen Language & Linguistics Studies), am Co-Editor for the journal Language (Linguistics Society of America), a member of the editorial board for the book series Studies in Bilingualism (John Benjamins), the journal Linguistic Approaches to Bilingualism (John Benjamins), the journal Evolutionary Linguistic Theory (John Benjamins), the journal Bilingualism: Language and Cognition (Cambridge University Press), the journal Heritage Language Journal (Brill), the Journal of Comparative Germanic Linguistics, the book series Current Issues in Bilingualism (Language Science Press), and the Yearbook of German-American Studies. I served as Vice President of the Society for Germanic Linguistics from 2018-2025. ​I also serve on the advisory board for Norchron (Norwegian diachronic corpus 200-1814) from 2025-2029.
